Rein R1 12 fret guitar

Thomas Rein R1 12 Fret Guitar

Honduran Mahogany back & sides

Adirondack Top

French polished top, with Nitro cellulose lacquer back & sides

Brazilian Rosewood bridge

Unslotted bone bridge pins

Good lookig Granadillo fretboard

 Nickel Waverly tuning machines

Comfortable short (24.9") scale length

This guitar is modeled after the old Gibson L-1 size of Robert Johnson fame. Here are some more interesting details. The Brazilian for the bridge came from a flitch that Tom Rein found at the Harmony Guitar Co. going out of business sale in Chicago in 1976. The Granadillo fretboard is as close as can be found to the look & resonance of Brazilian Rosewood, readily available today. Tom's French Polish is very similar to Gibson's Loar mandolins: an oil varnish intermediate coat with French polish on the top for final gloss.

Tom's R1 is just a bit larger than the original L-1 that had a 24.25" scale. The difference between a 24.25" scale & 24.9" is 4%, so he enlarged the body 4% to accommodate a 24.9" scale.

Maingard Guitar: Lucas York

New Maingard Lucas York

This is basically a deep bodied 00-12c.

Radically figured Rainbow Brazilian Rosewood back & sides.

One of Marc's rare, Italian Cedar tops (not to be confused with the much more common Western Red Cedar).

Soft cutaway.

Hand made Wave Rosette of Maple & Brazilian Rosewood.

Top AND Back ergonomic bevels of Cocobolo.

Cocobolo body & soundhole bindings.

Delicate Red purfling lines adjacent to all bindings & on the headstock - tasty!

Ebony fretboard & bridge.

Slotted headstock with figure Brazilian Rosewood front & back plates.

Gold Waverly tuning machines with Snakewood buttons.

Marc's patented design on the heelcap consisting of multiple colorful purfling strips.

Maple back center strip and tail wedge.

The short scale makes this guitar a breeze to play and gives it a full, rounded sound.

The Italian Cedar is more stiff than Western Red, so the tone is warm, yet clearly defined.

Some more specs: 10 3/8" upper bout; 14 7/8" lower bout; 19 1/8" body length; 4 3/4" deep at the tail.

Better grade Hiscox Lite flight case included.
