Beardsell 2G: New! Very colorful Brazilian Rosewood back and sides on this Avante Garde instrument. Allan goes where no man has gone before....! This guitar is in a category all its own, but is somewhere between a flattop and a Macaferri style gypsy jazz guitar. The sound is robust and pure. The top is Adirondack spruce and the guitar is bound in Ebony with an Ebony Laskin style top bevel. Maple purfling lines accent the bindings. The bass side of the guitar has 2 sound ports and the bracing is extremely innovative. The rosette is a work of art all its own, and the top sports a very attractive marquetry purfling. The rosette has been dubbed "the X-ray". It is made with Ebony and Holly. It is made in several stages with the use of concentric oval routing templates. Its main function, beyond the visual -- is to bind the end-grain inside the soundhole. The smaller outer purflings are made with the same material as the "rays". The outer ring of the rosette, the pie fringe, is an idea borrowed from Lacote guitars, the French Romantic era guitars. The headstock faceplate is Brazilian rosewood and has a gold MOP logo. Chrome Gotoh 510 tuning machines with genuine ebony buttons surround the headstock. The guitar has a laminated Mahogany neck in Allan's own asymetrical teardrop profile for maximum comfort. The ebony fretboard is bound with purfling lines and MOP side dot markers. Clear pickguard. The Ebony bridge is unique in its shape and frequency compensated. The broader width and increased weight/stiffness on the bass side tightens the bass-end by limiting the harmonic content, the opposite being true of the treble side. This makes for a fantastic sounding guitar with stellar trebles. The inside of the rim is sprayed with shellac. All these things add up to a unique, very fine, very rare instrument. OHSC included in our price of $7000. |
