Kragenbrink E2: This is our first Kragenbrink, and I knew we had a superb guitar even as I was initially tuning it up to pitch. This is a brand new guitar, yet the tone is immensely pleasing and bell-like, and Loud. Tremendous. This guitar features Malaysian Blackwood back & sides with a sapwood accent down the center. It has a great Adirondack spruce top. The bindings, heel cap and rosette are 5A flamed Koa. It has multiple purfling lines surrounding the top as well as black/white/black side purflings mitered at the tail. The headstock faceplate, fretboard and bridge are jet black Ebony. Larson Brothers Vintage Parlour, made for Southern California Music: Wow, we've heard stories about these guitars for years, and now we understand why. The guitar we have here has no label, stamp, or standard brand to identify it as a Larson brothers instrument; however, the work of the Larson Brothers is as distinctive as a signature. Bob Hartman, who wrote the BOOK on Larson Brothers Guitars, certifies that this guitar was made by the Larson Brothers. Standard-model Larson guitars characteristically have a serial number stamped in ink and the name brand burned into the center back brace, and their custom-order guitars weren't marked at all (which is extremely rare for a fine instrument). This one says THE BRADBURY and was distributed by the So. Calif. Music Co. The sound is woody and telling of a quality instrument. The back and sides are VERY fine straight grain, quarter sawn Brazilian and the top is Adirondack Spruce. The Rosette and top are trimmed in pearl. The body, fingerboard, soundhole and headstock are bound in a ivory colored material. The ebony fingerboard and bridge are inlayed in pearl. Slotted headstock with ivory colored tuner buttons (genuine?). The back centre strip is marquetry. The lower bout measures 12 5/8" and the upper is 9 3/8". As with any turn of the century instrument, this guitar has had multiple repairs. Some, quite visible. The lower bout, treble side has extensive repair with some replaced binding. The guitar has been refinished, and looks to have some French polish on it now. The bridge has been replaced. We've done a neck set, so it plays like a dream. New bone nut (1 3/4") and saddle. All cracks are sealed and repaired, the guitar is structually sound and sings like an old balladeer. One tiny piece of purfling is missing and one tiny piece of abalone on the upper bout. Overall very good condition for a guitar of its age and pedigree. We've put it in a new hard shell case and upgraded to natural colored oxbone bridge pins (not the ones pictured)... Our price on this rare instrument is $5300... Reduced.... $4800. A similar guitar, again made by the Larson Brothers for Southern California Music is at another Nashville Guitar shop for $9500. Santa Cruz FS Brazilian: USED ~ Exc. cond. Gorgeous straight grained Brazilian Rosewood back & sides. Fine German Spruce top. The FS model is designed for contemporary fingerstyle playing. These tops are voiced to provide both excellent clarity for the lower string tension of open tunings and surprising volume from even a light approach to playing. The body is bound in Brazilian. The rosette consists of triple rings of cobalt blue with black purfling. The Cobalt Blue purfling encircles the top as well. Soft cutaway. Gold Schallers with Ebony buttons sandwich a headstock overlayed in Brazilian. 1 13/16" Nut width. Quite a striking instrument in appearance and very comfortable to play seated. Square Deal FS: For those of you who enjoy the sound/look of a Greven, here is a very similar guitar at about 1/2 the price. Jack's guitar's have that old time look, feel, and TONE. Clean, honest work. This beauty features a nice, understated, fairly straight grained set of Madagascar Rosewood for the back and sides. The top is a great German spruce with a light sunburst. Square Deal FS-12: New from Jack Needham at Square Deal Guitar Company. This guitar sounds like a 1929 Martin. NO KIDDING! If you are after the old-timey vintage sound, this is the real deal. Mahogany back and sides with an Engelmann spruce top. Tortoiseshell colored body binding, heelcap, and tail wedge. Herringbone rosette & top trim. Zigzag back center strip. Jack uses animal hide glue for the joints and a mortise & tenon neck joint. He hand rubs the nitrocellulose laquer finish up to a sheen. Woodtone 000: USED ~ 2002? ~ EXc +++ condition. This unique guitar was handcrafted in Australia by Barry Kerr, a fine luthier, much more well-known there than here. We hope to change that. This guitar has a wonderful shimmering voice, the trebles are dripping with sparkle. It has mahogany back and sides from a non-endangered plantation variety of swietenia mahogani (Cuban Mahogany). The top is California Redwood. Sharp cutaway. The one piece neck is Queensland Cedar (toona Australis) with a reinforced Martin style adjustable truss rod. Herringbone rosette with barberpole top purfling. The chrome tuning machines are very cool in that a lever flips out so you can crank them easily (speedwinder buttons). Cocobolo binding. The fingerboard is Australian She-Oak (casuarina) with a tapered radius , i.e. 10" at the nut and 16" at the 12th fret. It is adorned with Ebony position dots. The faceplate of the headstock is flame Acacia (remember Noah's ark?) and the backplate is 3 layer Brazilian/Sycamore/Brazilian. MOP headstock logo.
