They only accepted two students every year so i was very fortunate to be able to do this. During my final year there I went to apprentice with \u003cspan\u003eDana Bourgeois\u003c\/span\u003e and his crew for four months. I worked in the part of the shop that voices and assembles bodies, during my time there we made about 120 guitars. I can't imagine a better place to learn about steel stringed guitars. When I was there I also got to know \u003cspan\u003eJohn Slobod\u003c\/span\u003e and \u003cspan\u003eLaurent Brondel\u003c\/span\u003e, -they also taught me a great deal. After leaving Maine I started my own shop back in Sweden, but in 2008 I went to study with \u003cspan\u003eErvin Somogyi\u003c\/span\u003e. I took his voicing class and also stayed in his shop for an extra four weeks to learn more from Ervin and his regular apprentices. His business model was simple, giving loans to governments in exchange for matchstick monopoly. By the late 1920's, he was ranked the richest man in the world. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn 1913, he placed an order for \"Loris\", a 50ft motor yacht that he used to travel between Stockholm and his summer residence in the archipelago outside Stockholm. After his death in 1932, the boat was sold at auction, traded several times, sunk and rescued before she was found as a wreck by its current owner in 1992. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHe carefully restored her into her former glory, among other things he had to replace parts of the mahogany deck. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe old pieces were saved and in 2007 he contacted me to commission two guitars made from the old mahogany. These were my first commissions, and as a 10th anniversary guitar, i have, with his permission, built this third \"Loris\"-guitar. The entire tree was decorated in a spiraling bark that hinted at the serious potential of highly figured wood. With great pride and perseverance these loggers felled the tree on that day knowing that the closest mill was over 200 miles away. As daunting as it may seem to move such a large tree through the dense jungle, the loggers knew it was possible and took great pride in the challenge. Unfortunately the fell didn’t go as they planned and the gigantic tree felled into a ravine. After it felled and was cut in half a D7 Caterpillar Tractor was brought in to move the tree, but failed miserably.
