THREET GUITARS

Some Background
Judy Threet earned her PhD in philosophy at Stanford in 1986. In 1987, while teaching at
the University of Calgary, she joined a local folk/swing band where she met a gifted and
generous luthier, Michael Heiden. In no time, she placed an order for a guitar. Though
still teaching, she spent many hours at Michael's shop and, by 1989, asked him to teach
her the principles of inlay -- "as a diversion", she claimed. (...) By 1990, Heiden had
overseen the building of Judy's first guitar. By 1991 she had switched careers and opened
her own shop. In her current location, a warehouse loft in one of Calgary's oldest
buildings, Judy works alone, completing fewer than twelve instruments a year. Threet
guitars can now be found across North America and in Japan.

Threet Model B Custom: We count ourselves MOST fortunately to get a new Judy Threet guitar about every other year. But, they are ALWAYS worth the wait. This one features incredibly flamed koa back and sides with an outrageously figured Bearclaw Spruce top. The fingerboard is Madagascar rosewood with slotted diamond and other special inlays. 1 3/4" nut with 2 1/4" string spacing at the saddle. The body is bound in Ebony. The bridge is Brazilian rosewood. The rosette is solid koa with blue purfling. This purfling reoccurs next to the binding, and there are even fine purfling lines on the fretboard. The neck has Judy's special Watco finish, it is almost like touching the naked wood, it is smooth and fast and not sticky, and will get faster with play. Black Buffalo horn bridge pins with MOP dots. The headstock veneer is Bocote and has a specially designed OWL inlay that is unbelievable intricate. Gold Gotoh 510 super tuners with Ebony buttons and a Calton flight case complete the package. But, we've saved the BEST for Last! The sound that wafts from this spectacular instrument defies reason. It's koa, it's small ~~~ but the sound is anything BUT! It's a lively, loud box, and I have no idea how or why. Our price on this fine, fine piece is SOLD. Front... Closer... Back... Headstock... More detail of Headstock.. Fretboard... Rosette...
